Specialized EMDR Therapy

What is EMDR?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a powerful, evidence-based therapy approach that helps people heal from trauma and distressing life experiences. EMDR therapy has been extensively researched and proven effective for treating trauma, PTSD, anxiety, phobias, and other conditions where difficult memories play a role.

How EMDR Works

EMDR therapy uses bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements, taps, or tones) while you briefly focus on a troubling memory or belief. This process helps your brain process these memories in a new, less distressing way—similar to what happens during REM sleep when your brain naturally processes daily experiences.

EMDR Formats We Offer

Weekly EMDR Sessions: Traditional 50-minute sessions allow for gradual processing of traumatic experiences and integration of new insights. This format works well for those who:

  • Prefer to process at a more measured pace

  • Have ongoing life stressors requiring regular support

  • Need to balance therapy with work and family commitments

Intensive EMDR Therapy: Concentrated treatment over a shorter time period, typically consisting of:

  • Extended sessions (90-120 minutes)

  • Multiple sessions per week, or

  • Half-day or full-day sessions over consecutive days

Intensive EMDR is particularly beneficial for:

  • Processing specific traumatic events more efficiently

  • Accelerating treatment for those who feel "stuck" in traditional therapy

  • Clients who travel from out of town or have limited availability for weekly sessions

  • Those who prefer to work through difficult material in a concentrated timeframe
